The First Deliverable Of The Agroshield Project Has Been Approved By The Climaax Project
Through the AGROSHIELD Project, funded under the Second Open Call of the CLIMAAX Programme, the Marmara Municipalities Union aims to strengthen agricultural resilience in the Southern Marmara Basin. The project also seeks to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices across the Marmara Region by working in collaboration with local authorities, farmers, and experts.
Within the scope of the project, high-resolution agricultural drought risk analyses were conducted in four pilot districts — İznik, Gemlik, Karamürsel, and Gönen — in accordance with the CLIMAAX methodology. Climate data were analyzed together with crop water sensitivity and local socio-economic indicators to provide a scientific basis for local adaptation strategies.
The approved first-phase report includes:
- Analysis of agricultural drought risks,
- Identification of vulnerable areas and high-risk crops,
- Assessment of future vulnerability trends based on climate projections,
- Development of datasets that will form the foundation for local adaptation strategies.
With this approval, the second phase of the project will commence. The upcoming stage will include higher-resolution analyses, field studies, and stakeholder meetings to develop actionable adaptation scenarios and propose applicable strategies for the region.
The English version of the first-phase report is available [here]. Work on the Turkish translation of the report is currently underway and will be shared with the public once completed.
The project is funded under the Second Open Call of the CLIMAAX Project, which is supported by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme.
