Reslog Local Governance And Migration Meeting Held inIstanbul
RESLOG-Turkey “Local Governance and Migration Meeting” hosted by MMU took place in Istanbul on 27 February 2019 with the participation of pilot municipalities from Marmara and Cukurova Regions.
Within the framework of the RESLOG Project, the first program of the “Local Governance and Migration Meeting” was held in Istanbul, on February 27, 2019 with the participation of municipalities from Marmara and Cukurova Regions of Turkey, namely Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, Mezitli Municipality, Osmangazi Municipality, Orhangazi Municipality, Reyhanlı Municipality, Saricam Municipality, Seyhan Municipality, Sisli Municipality, Zeytinburnu Municipality, Sultanbeyli Municipality as well as planning experts and representatives from Marmara Municipalities Union, Union of Municipalities of Turkey and Union of Cukurova Municipalities.
After the opening speeches made by Ms. Burcuhan Sener, MMU Migration Policy Center Director and Mr. M. Sinan Ozden, RESLOG-Turkey National Project Manager, Ms. Merve Agca, RESLOG Project MMU Project Coordinator made a presentation on MMU’s work on migration and social cohesion policies. The participants were informed on “Local Governance and Migration Meetings” which aims to address the current and new approaches and the experiences of the municipalities in the field of migration through a series of trainings, workshops and panels.
During the first session of the program organized with the theme of “Migration Law and Local Governments”, Lawyer Utku Kılınc conveyed the basic concepts and national and international regulations within the context of human rights law. At the second session, difficulties and limitations faced by municipalities in their work on migrants and refugees were evaluated within the framework of administrative judiciary, Court of Accounts and other relevant institutions.
LGAs shared their experience on migration
On the following day Marmara Municipalities Union and the Union of Municipalities of Çukurova came together to share their knowledge and experiences on migration issue. The foundation and functioning of MMU Migration Policy Center was presented as a model for other Local Government Associations.
